World Smile Day

Bremen Celebrates World Smile Day!
On Friday, October 1st, students and staff at Bremen High School celebrated World Smile Day.

Students volunteered to pass out smiley face masks, stress balls, stickers, temporary tattoos, jewelry, and other items in the hopes of making others smile and sharing kindness. Paper smiley face plant seeds were also handed out with the goal to make smiles grow. 🙂

Aside from gathering goodies, posters were also placed in the school's lunchroom where students could share what makes them smile.

The smiley face, like World Smile Day, was created by Harvey Ball. Ball created the smiley face in 1963, but as years passed he became concerned that the smiley face was being over-commercialized and losing its meaning and intent.

Thus, Ball created World Smile Day in 1999.

According to the World Smile Day webpage, "He thought that we, all of us, should devote one day each year to smiles and kind acts throughout the world. The smiley face knows no politics, no geography, and no religion. Harvey's idea was that for at least one day each year, neither should we."
