Bremen Bowls at IHSA State

Kevin Walsh, head coach of the Girls Bowling Team at Bremen High School in Midlothian, Ill. was named this year's South Suburban Conference Coach of the Year. In order to win this award, Walsh was nominated by other coaches within both the South Suburban Blue and Red Conferences.

"It's a great honor," says Walsh. "It's not easy being a coach with all of the family commitments we have as well, so having the respect of other coaches is awesome."

Walsh, who has been with District 228 for 18 years, has been coaching the Bremen Girls Bowling Team 17 of those years!

His Co-Coach, Coach Flood, has been working with Walsh for 16 years. To which Walsh says, "None of this would be possible without his dedication to the lower level, which gets them prepared to come to varsity and makes my job WAY easier. Also a big thanks to Coach Strand who came on this year and has done the driving for us."

Under the leadership of Walsh, the Girls Varsity Bowling Team had the honor of competing in IHSA Regionals, then Secionals, and finally at IHSA State.

It had been roughly six years since the team had gone to Sectionals let alone State, which Walsh gives credit to his team's hard work.

The Lady Braves did well at State. They missed the cut by only 25 pins! Iyana Oliviel and Timya Siemplinski also has the opportunity to advance as individual competitors!
