DECA Awarded Grant from Marriott Hotels
Bremen High School DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) students have been awarded a three-year license for a Virtual Business hotel simulator from the Marriott Grant Program. The program is valued at roughly $750.00 and will allow students to use and build off of skills they are learning in the classroom. With the simulator, students run a hotel, set prices, group rates, fill rooms, hire staff, and more. They are responsible for making a profit, customer service responses, and keeping the rooms filled.

"Ultimately, they understand how decisions they make will affect the bottom line of their business," says Mr. Todd Strein, DECA teacher at Bremen High School.

Marriott Hotel Group offered this grant opportunity to schools across the United States. Six schools, including Bremen High School, were chosen as the recipients.

While DECA students at Bremen are focusing on running a hotel, virtual business simulators are also available for accounting, retail, restaurants, sports and entertainment, personal finance, and fashion. In each simulator, students run a business and make decisions that affect profits.

"It's a great way to bring classroom skills into real-life situations," says Strein.
