New Head Boys Varsity Basketball Coach

New Head Boys Varsity Basketball Coach
Bremen High School has named Matthew Humphrey as its new Head Boys Varsity Basketball Coach. This news comes as Otis Lane announced his retirement after 24 years of serving District 228 and Bremen basketball.

Humphrey has been coaching for roughly ten years for various high schools, Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Teams, and independent skill-developing programs. He has played for three major Division 1 institutions which include the University of Oregon, Boston College, and West Virginia University.

"Coach Humphrey's resume as a player and coach speaks for itself," says Bremen High School Athletic Director Eric Washington. "In addition to his basketball knowledge, what really stood out to me throughout the interview process was his passion for coaching and developing student-athletes. I'm extremely excited to have him as the leader of our boys' basketball program."

Humphrey grew up in local Calumet City where he says he spent a great deal of time playing through the basketball circuit both in the city and the South Suburbs. He attended Hales Franciscan High School and played for the South Suburban Wildcats in his youth.

"I had some amazing coaches that pushed me and were instrumental in paving the way for myself and plenty of other basketball players to succeed," says Humphrey. "I grew up as a Sonny Parker Youth Foundation kid, where Parker and my father (Darryl Humphrey) were influential in taking my game to the next level. They demonstrated the importance of giving back to the community and granting every kid they encountered the opportunity to play basketball. That is essentially what I want to do as the next head coach at Bremen High School. Here at Bremen High School, we want to instill a culture of pride for the school and being a Brave. I'm so excited to be part of the Bremen Braves legacy and take things to the next level for the school."

Humphrey also said he is excited to "build a legacy and tradition of success, and foster an environment that builds confidence in student-athletes to excel in any career field that they choose, and all aspects of life."
