South Suburban Conference Dance Coach of the Year

South Suburban Conference Dance Coach of the Year
Darcy Walker, head coach of the Competitive Dance Team at Bremen High School in Midlothian, Ill. has been named the 2018 South Suburban Conference Dance Coach of the Year. In order to win this award, Walker was nominated by other coaches within the conference.

While the dance team at Bremen has been around for many years, this is Walker's first year coaching the team. It is also the first year of coaching for assistant coaches, Desiree Thigpen, and Tamara Pryor. While it may be her first year coaching the team, this is Walker's second year teaching in District 228. She originally taught English at Bremen High School and now teaches District 228 students at South Suburban College where District 228's new Alternative Education Program is housed.

"Being a first-year coach, I had no idea what to expect," says Walker. "I am blessed with an amazing group of coaches and an even more amazing group of girls. Being named South Suburban Conference Dance Coach of the Year is a reflection on our girls and how we represent Bremen."

The Bremen High School Competitive Dance team is off to a good start this year. They recently took home a third-place trophy at the competition hosted at Dwight D. Eisenhower High School in Blue Island, Ill.

Walker further says, "The hard work and dedication they have is admirable. The coaches and I look forward to continue building the team."

The Bremen High School Competitive Dance team has many events coming up, including, a Sectional competition on January 19 in Geneva, a Mini Clinic on January 30, and a Craft and Vendor show on March 9.
