NHS October Teacher Recognition of October

NHS October Teacher Recognition of October

The following writeups were presented at the October staff meeting. NHS would like to take a brief moment to recognize a few teachers for consistently going above and beyond and making an impact on their students. The following teachers were selected through a nomination process administered by the National Honor Society and students were encouraged to submit the name of a teacher who has made an impact on students’ lives, both academically and personally. These responses were reviewed and teachers were selected based on the subject they teach and the overall feedback received. We would like to begin this year's teacher recognition by celebrating three deserving teachers, Mr. Luby, Mr. Hasso, and Mr. Strein.

Mr. Luby

On days where school feels especially tiring to get through, Mr. Luby was always there to misinterpret what you say and add witty jokes to the end for a grin to spread on  everyone’s face. His AP Human Geography class prefaced me to excel in AP World History and while I don’t have my license yet, I certainly know what radio stations to turn to when I do. Despite spending my Freshman year online, Mr. Luby made it extremely easy to stay awake with his iconic music and sarcastic tone to get me through each lesson. While many students may have not been introduced to him in class, they certainly remember him randomly popping into different rooms just to crack jokes and leave with everyone erupting in laughter or with confused expressions. While learning is equally important, Mr. Luby’s presence reminds our school to keep everyday humorous as those are the moments that remain in our heart’s forever.

Mr. Strein

In my four years attending Bremen High School I have never met a teacher who I felt I could trust more than Mr. Strein. Anyone who is lucky enough to know him, knows very well of the kindness in his heart. If a student ever needs help or just someone to talk to, Mr. Strein is there with a smile. It is no secret that Mr. Strein did not expect to become a teacher, but as fate would have it, any Bremen student is lucky he did because he is the most trusting sponsor at Bremen High School. If you have a crazy plan (like buying the school store a crazy expensive espresso machine) he is there to back you up, encouraging you the whole way through. He is helping mold his students into good people who want to give back to the community and for that I applaud him.  It is rare to find someone who you feel genuinely cares about every single person in the room, but with Mr. Strein you can immediately feel his passion to teach and help students grow into crazy successful businessmen/women or whoever they choose to be. I’d like to thank him again for all the work he does around the school, as a teacher, as a sponsor, and as the go to guy for any printing.

Mr. Hasso

To the teacher who greets us everyday with a huge smile on his face and a positive attitude, I would like to recognize Mr. Hasso, who is a great influence to all of his students. Mr. Hasso finds ways to make class interesting by relating topics discussed in class to the real world. He keeps his students engaged by creating lesson plans that are both informational and entertaining. Mr. Hasso makes sure that his students are always comfortable both in and out of the classroom. He always checks on his students if he sees that they’ve been struggling in his class or just in general. He creates a safe space in his classroom and never makes you feel judged. If you have any questions he’s always willing to answer them. Mr. Hasso is very open minded which makes it really easy for you to talk to him about anything since you know he’ll never judge you and he’s always willing to explore everyone’s different opinions. Although he is a jokester, he truly is someone who you can go and talk to about anything. He’s an amazing teacher with a great sense of humor who has positively influenced the lives of many students at Bremen high school.
