Bremen High School senior Yoseline De La Rosa has been appointed as the 2024-25 Public Relations Officer for the Illinois chapter of DECA, marking a historic milestone as the first student from Bremen High School District 228 to hold a state-level office within the organization.
DECA is a career and technical student organization that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management. DECA's competitive events program, conferences, and leadership activities help high school and college students develop skills for successful business careers.
Reflecting on her journey, Yoseline recalls first joining DECA as a freshman with little understanding of the organizationās scope but was drawn in by the buzz and enthusiasm of her peers. "I joined DECA with no idea of what to expect or what DECA consisted of," she said. "I'm so glad I continued it." Since then, Yoseline has thrived within DECA, serving as Vice President in her sophomore year, Co-President as a junior, and now as President of Bremenās DECA chapter.
Throughout her leadership roles, Yoseline has spearheaded several initiatives to enrich Bremen High School's DECA program. She was instrumental in establishing new resources like the schoolās āCoffee Cornerā and expanding the school store to include items such as a slushie machine. Her efforts also led the chapter to achieve "Good Status," earning them reserved seating at the Illinois state DECA conference.
Yoselineās favorite aspect of DECA is its ability to foster authenticity and personal growth. āThe ability to be myself,ā she says, has allowed her to find her passion within the business world, develop her public speaking skills, and build strong relationships. "I've only grown from being a timid freshman to someone who is confident in her ability to run a room."
Yoselineās journey to becoming Illinois DECA Public Relations Officer involved a rigorous three-part selection process, including testing, interviews, and delivering multiple speeches. Her success came after competing with over 30 applicants across the state, a testament to her hard work, dedication, and vision.
āIt is an honor I do not take lightly,ā Yoseline shared, reflecting on her role as the first state DECA representative from Bremen and the entire District 228. āI hope I can guide future leaders and be the first of many from Bremen to make an impact on DECA at the state level.ā
As Public Relations Officer, Yoseline is committed to representing Illinois DECA on behalf of the south side and creating inclusive, accessible opportunities for all regions. Her focus this year will be on fostering Community, Connectedness, and Competition, encouraging inter-chapter collaboration, and enhancing access to resources and competition tips.
Beyond high school, Yoseline plans to pursue a double major in political science and business administration, with aspirations of becoming a corporate lawyer.
Yoseline De La Rosaās accomplishment is a proud moment for Bremen High School and Bremen High School District 228, as she continues to be a role model and leader for her peers.
