Bremen High School District 228 students are honoring the 24th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks by engaging with the district’s September 11 Memorial Exhibit, currently on display at Bremen High School.
What began five years ago as a collaboration between the Oak Forest High School IMC and Social Studies teams has grown into a meaningful, traveling memorial for students to explore and reflect upon. The exhibit features a wide range of artifacts donated by BHSD 228 staff members—including newspapers, photographs, flags, videos, and other items that capture the events and aftermath of September 11, 2001.
This year marks the first time the exhibit has been moved to a different school in the district, with plans to rotate it annually among all four high schools so more students can experience it. Students visiting the exhibit are encouraged to complete a reflection activity to deepen their understanding of this moment in history.
Among this year’s additions is a 2002 artifact featuring two members of Bremen’s administrative team, further connecting the exhibit to the school community.
“Special thanks go to the Bremen IMC team for organizing the exhibit this year and to the teachers who continue to contribute artifacts and personal stories that help bring this history to life for students,” said Ryan Nagle, BHSD 228 Social Studies Department Supervisor.
The memorial exhibit will continue to expand with new artifacts and stories each year, ensuring that students across District 228 have opportunities to honor the lives lost and remember the lasting impact of September 11.
