In collaboration with The Nature Conservancy at Indian Boundary Prairies in Markham, IL, students from our Environmental Investigations classes had the opportunity to visit Paintbrush Prairie and discover the incredible treasure we have right here in our community.
While the original plan was to participate in a butterfly feeding event, the monarchs were not available. The Nature Conservancy quickly rescheduled activities, which resulted in some amazing new experiences for our students! They learned about the vital role prairies play in our environment, explored plant and animal species unique to this habitat, and gained insight into invasive speciesāalong with the ongoing efforts by The Nature Conservancy and the Illinois Department of Transportation to control their spread.
Students also had the chance to walk through the prairie and collect samples for observation. Following their time at Paintbrush Prairie, they visited Oak Forest High School to observe the prairie restoration work in progress along 151st Street.
Having access to these sites as part of their studies allows students to engage in authentic, hands-on learning while deepening their understanding of local environments and habitats.

At the end of each school yr, BHS' Circle Book Club celebrates the power of reading by giving back to the school community. This year, Circle members chose to support Mrs. Arguelles and the EL (English Learner) program. The EL classroom already had a bookshelf, so Circle stepped in to complete the spaceādonating a cozy rug and a comfortable reading chair to create a welcoming book nook!

75 kids participated in the 12th annual BHS Bring Your Child to Work Day last Friday. The kids were able to shadow their family member for part of the day and also visit other classes for fun activities such as slime making, homemade ice-cream labs, dodgeball, storytelling, a mini musical, a visit from Kona Ice, and meeting a therapy dog. The day was a huge success thanks to the Child Care 1 and Child Care 2 students and the many staff volunteers! #BremenBraves
